23/05/2008 - Match drilling
skins; leading edge and LE + Fuel tank joint strip
The
first part of the evening consisted of match drilling the skins
aft of the spar and the leading edge of the right wing.
That's going to be a lot of rivets !!!!!!
A few hours later there was enough time to
install the end rib and associated fuel tank joint strip.
Using the long 12" #40 drill I could drill the holes from
underneath through the spar and into the rib. I had marked a
centre line down the flange so I knew that I had enough edge
clearance but the picture did not come out too well below.
Following the instructions and plans I drew a
line down the provided strip to act as a guide for placement.
Once I could see the line all the way round through the pre
punched rivet holes in the leading edge I match drilled the skin
to the joint plate. Then I added the rib using the same
method. One joint plate completed.
